A BIT ABOUT US
Who We Are
Ryan Aman made the decision to create Random Phonetic Gestures Comedy (RPG Comedy) in 2007 after Macomb Community College made the decision to close down their theatre program. After 3 years of searching for the right team of performers and planning out the business structure, RPG Comedy was officially formed in May 2010 with the mission to ensure the community would always have the opportunity to experience live theatre. Whether the experience came from the viewpoint of the performer, the audience member, or the student, the promise of opportunity has been absolutely vital to our identity and will continue to be in the future.
That's why we will never charge membership fees, we continue to offer free improv workshops, and we consider affordability over profitability in our ticket prices.
Along the way, we’ve realized that we can use our talent to help improve the community in ways outside of our normal shows. We currently offer a cost efficient and unique fundraiser opportunity to those local nonprofit organizations and individuals in the community experiencing hardship. We have raised over $10,000 in our fundraisers to date!
We currently perform a 90-minute highly interactive “Whose Line” style improv comedy show. We begin our improv shows at a PG-13 level and then will use our 150+ years of combined performing experience to read the audience's comedy preferences and mold the show to best suit the audience. We have performed these shows all over the Metro-Detroit area. On top of the improv shows, we also offer murder mystery dinner theatre events, team building workshops.
